Things I’ve Loved During Our First Months With a Baby
The first few months with a baby have a way of making the simplest things feel important. Over time, we found ourselves reaching for the same pieces again and again, whether they made our days a little easier, kept her comfortable, or simply became part of our everyday rhythm. These are the things I’ve genuinely loved having around during our first months with her.

Making the Everyday a Little Easier
In those first few months, I quickly learned that the things I loved most were the ones that made it easier to simply bring her along with me. I never wanted our days to feel completely centered around baby gear, but a few pieces naturally became part of our everyday rhythm.
Babywearing has probably been one of my favorite parts of this stage. In the earliest weeks, I constantly reached for a soft wrap. Having her tucked against me while I moved around the house, went for a walk, or simply made something to eat gave me the closeness I wanted while still letting me have my hands free. As she’s gotten a little bigger, we’ve started reaching for a structured carrier more often, but I already know I’ll always associate those soft wraps with the newborn days.
Our bouncer has been another thing we use constantly. I move it from room to room depending on what I’m doing, and it gives her a cozy little place to be close by while I get ready, fold laundry, or make dinner. It’s such a simple thing, but it has become one of those pieces that quietly makes our days run a little more smoothly.
And then there are our walks. Getting outside has been part of our routine almost from the beginning, so having a stroller I genuinely enjoy using has mattered more than I expected. Some days it’s a long neighborhood walk and others it’s simply getting out for matcha or lunch, but being able to easily take her along has helped our life with a baby feel like an extension of the life we already loved rather than something entirely separate.
The Things Always Within Reach
There are a handful of little things that seem to follow us from room to room and somehow always end up within arm’s reach. Burt’s Bees burp cloths are probably at the top of that list. We have them everywhere, tucked beside the couch, draped over the nursery chair, and thrown into every bag. They’re soft, simple, and one of those very unexciting purchases that we ended up using constantly.
Our Baby Lola blanket has also been a favorite from the very beginning. It’s soft and cozy without feeling too heavy, and it has come along for stroller walks, contact naps, and countless afternoons around the house. We have plenty of baby blankets, but this is the one I find myself reaching for again and again. It already feels like one of those little things I’ll always associate with this season.
The same goes for a few of our everyday baby care favorites. I’ve loved Noodle & Boo for bath time and their laundry detergent for her clothes, and Earth Mama diaper cream has been a staple at the changing table from the beginning. None of these things feel particularly groundbreaking, but that’s almost why I love them. They work, they’re easy to reach for, and they’ve quietly become part of caring for her every day.
Some of the smallest, simplest things have ended up being the ones we use the most.
Getting Her Dressed
I’ve loved dressing her, but I’ve also learned very quickly that I reach for the simplest pieces the most. H&M has been a favorite for everyday basics, especially their little tanks and simple short and long sleeve onesies. I tend to gravitate toward soft, neutral colors and pieces that feel feminine without being overly fussy. They’re easy, comfortable, and still feel put together even when we’re just spending the day at home.
For something a little more special, I love Rylee + Cru. Their pieces still have that simple, understated feel I’m drawn to, but with sweet prints and details that make an everyday outfit feel a little more fun.
Pajamas are where I tend to have more fun with patterns. Carter’s and Magnetic Me have been our favorites, and I love having a mix of sweet prints and classic little sleepers to put her in after her bath each night.
What I haven’t reached for nearly as much are the elaborate outfits with lots of separate pieces. Socks rarely make an appearance, and anything too complicated tends to stay in the drawer. I’ve found that I love her most in simple, comfortable pieces that still feel pretty and feminine. Easy, classic, and a little bit chic has definitely become my favorite way to dress her.
Leaving the House With a Baby
For the first month, we barely left the house at all. We were so tucked into our little newborn bubble, and honestly, it took some courage for me to start venturing outside of it. As she got a little older and I became more confident, getting out slowly started to feel easier. Now, walks, coffee, lunch, and little errands have become some of my favorite parts of our days together.
Having a few things that make leaving the house feel simple has definitely helped. For quick trips, the Doona has been incredibly convenient. For longer walks and slower outings, I love our Nuna stroller for how comfortable it is for her and how easy it is to use. And when I want her close or a stroller feels unnecessary, I’ll often reach for our BabyBjörn carrier.
I’ve also learned to keep our diaper bag packed and ready by the door, which makes getting out feel much less like an event. A few diapers, wipes, a burp cloth, an extra outfit, and a blanket are usually all we really need.
More than the specific gear, though, I think what I’ve loved most is realizing that bringing a baby along doesn’t have to feel overwhelming. What once felt like a huge undertaking has gradually become part of our normal rhythm, and some of my favorite memories from these first months have come from simply getting out into the world together.
The Comforts of Home
As much as I’ve grown to love getting out with her, some of my favorite parts of these first months have happened right at home. There is something so special about the closeness of this stage, when so much of the day is spent with her tucked against me or simply nearby.
I’ve loved wearing her around the house, cuddling together in the rocker, and all of the quiet moments spent nursing her throughout the day. Even her little stretches of playtime on her play mat have become something I love, watching her slowly become more curious and aware of everything around her while I sit beside her.
Bath time has become another favorite part of our days. What started as simply part of taking care of a newborn has slowly turned into one of our little evening rituals, followed by pajamas, nursing, and cuddles before bed.
There is a sweetness to being home with a baby that I don’t think I fully understood before having one. The days can be repetitive and incredibly ordinary, but lately I find myself wanting to hold onto all of it. These quiet moments at home have easily been some of my favorite parts of this season.
Final Thoughts
Looking back on these first few months, I know so many of the things I’ve loved will forever remind me of this season. The tiny pajamas, blankets draped over every chair, long walks with the stroller, and quiet hours spent together at home have all become part of the memory.
Of course, none of the things themselves are what make these days so special. It’s the little life we’ve built around them and the ordinary moments they’ve been a part of. I know this season will change quickly, which makes me appreciate these simple, everyday pieces of our first months together even more.
